Probus Recognises Two Bribie Cove Residents

Posted by McKenzie | 23 Jan 2020

Two of our Bribie Cove residents have been acknowledged for their 20 years of membership with the Probus Club Bribie Island, a club for retired members with similar interests to come together.

Paul Challen (90) and Godfrey Grubb (83) do not attend meetings as active members anymore due to their age, however are the first non-active members to be acknowledged for the long commitment to the club.  Both members remain in touch with the club and its activities as much as possible and were very chuffed to have the club’s president come to present them their long-term membership certificates.

When coming in to a McKenzie home we encourage our residents to stay in touch with their community whilst becoming a part of ours.  Being part of a group or club with like-minded people gives a sense of worth and purpose, something that should be encouraged throughout all stages of life.  At McKenzie we have our own clubs and groups within our homes, these include gardening, knitting, sewing and cooking, they are organised by our wonderful Lifestyle Coordinators. At one home we have a group of ladies who discovered they all loved to play cards, they now gather once a week in the café downstairs for a cup of tea, a chat and to enjoy playing a few rounds of cards.  We encourage family members and friends to join our residents and be involved in these activities when they can.
