Our story

Building warm, caring and welcoming communities.

A tradition of care

In September 2001, when sisters Sally and Mary-Ann McKenzie opened their first aged care home, ‘Armitage’, in the inner Melbourne suburb of Windsor, they saw a need to create an environment that truly felt like a family home. Their vision was to build an aged care home that they would be proud to live in. The Armitage was a success and set the McKenzies on the path for future growth, with the Group eventually operating 17 warm, welcoming and homely communities in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

In 2023, the McKenzie family chose experienced Australian not-for-profit provider Bolton Clarke to become McKenzie Aged Care’s new owner and operator and continue to build on its legacy. Bolton Clarke had its beginnings with the Melbourne District Nursing Society (later Royal District Nursing Service) in 1885 and with RSL Care in Queensland.

As part of Bolton Clarke, McKenzie Aged Care is proud to add to this rich history and ongoing story. Together, we provide connected care services across Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia, underpinned by the work of the Bolton Clarke Research Institute.

Our homes remain true to the original vision as places where people are cared for and cared about. We value the family unit and all that it stands for. This is why your family is treated like one of our own. When you walk through the doors of a McKenzie home you will immediately feel the difference.
