How does the traineeship work?
Aged care workers, known as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) or Assistant in Nursing (AIN), carry out daily activities in residential facilities to maintain the personal care and independence of the elderly. Aged care workers have the opportunity to provide tailored, compassionate relationship-based care to residents, allowing them to maintain the self-respect and dignity they deserve.
McKenzie partners with reputable and industry leading training organisations, who deliver high-quality aged care education, to provide you a unique career opportunity to earn money while you complete a Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33015). As part of our traineeship, you’ll be working alongside our experienced, supportive team of carers gaining practical experience, and studying under the expert guidance of our trainers.
You will help carers and residents with showering and dressing residents, mealtimes, resident activities, and outings. As you are taught different skills, you will start getting more hands on, whilst still being fully supported and supervised.
Through theory, simulation and on the job training, you will learn:
- about the human body and how to support its healthy functioning
- to maintain personal care and other activities of daily living
- to provide physical, emotional and social individualised support
- to work with diverse people and cultures
- to implement safe work practices and infection control
- how to provide dementia care
- how to facilitate the empowerment of older people and tailor their support
- tools to communicate and collaborate effectively with clients, families and co-workers
- how to work as part of a team with other health professionals such as nurses and healthcare workers
- how to work legally and ethically with older people
Successful trainees will receive a Certificate III in Individual Support that, in most cases, can lead to permanent employment at a McKenzie home.
